State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• Maria L. Meckes, 21, of Jim Thorpe, was injured a one-vehicle crash at 12:05 p.m. March 11 on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

Police said she was driving a 2022 Subaru east on Route 903 when heavy winds caused the car to leave the roadway and hit a utility pole. The car continued to travel about 120 yards where it struck an embankment and a second utility pole.

It had moderate damages and was towed from the scene.

Police said Meckes was cited for the incident.

• Police said a snow squall that happened at 2:46 p.m. March 10 caused a car to crash on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

They said Brian R. Doran, 51, of Mason, Ohio, was driving a 2012 Ford Explorer westbound when the incident happened. The squall, police said, caused an immediate downfall of snow, slush and ice, during which time Doran’s vehicle lost traction and struck a guide rail on the shoulder of the road.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by a local towing service.

Police said Doran showed discomfort from the seat belt and air bag deployment and was checked out by an unknown EMT. He was later transported from the crash site.

• Yan L. Mehl, 46, of Kunkletown, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11 a.m. March 3 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the West End Ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Police said she was driving a 2016 Honda CRV south on Route 209 when it failed to stop for a steady red light. They said Joseph A. Steo III, 59, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2023 Nissan Altima at the time and had proceeded into the intersection after the driver obtained a green light. Police said he Altima struck the passenger side rear quarter panel of the Honda, causing it to roll over.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Steo was uninjured.

Police said Mehl was cited for “traffic control signals” while Steo was cited for driving with an expired registration.
