No point in not going to this band’s show Saturday

“Know Return,” a Kansas tribute band, will perform March 23 at the Tamaqua Arts Center.

The band will switch gears for half of the show, playing music from the band Styx under the name “Fooling Ourselves.”

“Think of it as two bands that just happen to have the same musicians. “‘Know Return’ is the Kansas tribute. ‘Fooling Ourselves’ is the Styx tribute,” said Chuck Whitmore, a keyboardist in the band.

The show begins at 7 p.m. and will feature two, 1-hour sets that will provide equal offerings from Kansas and Styx.

“It goes over very well with audiences and venues alike. And the loyal Kansas and Styx fans seem to get along,” Whitmore said.

The band will play popular hits, then dive into deeper cuts and longer progressive rock epics to delight the hardcore fans, he noted.

The seven members of “Know Return” handle guitars, drums, keyboards, vocals, and violin.

“What made Kansas unique were the vocals and violin. There’s no way to do a respectable tribute without those - and the vocals also figure prominently into our Styx tribute,” Whitmore said.

Each member brings many years of experience to the band, along with a passion for the music, he said. They have put in countless hours to master the repertoire and rehearse it as a band, he said.

“We’re excited to be at a point where we’re confident in our musical performance and can really have fun with it on stage,” Whitmore said. “We know that this music means a lot to the people who grew up with it and we want to honor that by giving them an enjoyable and memorable experience.”
