Lehighton is seeking applicants for a new borough secretary after its longtime clerk decided to step down from her post.

After a roughly one-hour and 30-minute executive session, borough council last week accepted the resignation letter of borough secretary Brenda Kreitz, effective March 8.

The resignation was approved on a 6-0 vote, with an abstention from Councilman John Kreitz, who is married to Brenda.

Kreitz was hired as borough secretary in June 2006.

Borough council also accepted the resignation of employee No. 186, effective March 15.

Afterward, council agreed to advertise to hire a borough secretary, as well as a utility billing clerk, who also resigned.
