Lehighton reviews winter plan

Lehighton continues to search for the best strategy to deal with its winter weather procedures.

Borough Manager Dane DeWire said at last week’s borough council meeting there has been a lot of discussion after the last big snowstorm.

Councilman John Kreitz said that he attempted to address the situation during his previous stint on borough council.

“I think we just need to be more proactive about posting our emergencies prior to the storm so that it gives people more time,” Kreitz said.

Councilman Ryan Saunders agreed, and added, “We don’t give people enough time,” and added it would be best if the borough had a system in place that was posted all year.

“We probably should do a better job (letting the residents know),” Saunders said. “We definitely need to do better.”

Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky said the borough received some flak.

“We had a ton of people coming in complaining about it,” Abelovsky said. “Could we have a committee put together?

Abelovsky said perhaps council could look to review its snow emergency routes.
