Lansford office back on track

Lansford Borough Council continues to work on getting the borough office up and running again after being without a secretary for nearly two months.

Council members last week gave titles to the two new secretaries, who were hired as general secretaries, and approved training.

Maria Ahner will serve as borough secretary/treasurer, as well as the Right to Know officer, and Ashley McLaughlin will serve as the assistant borough secretary and treasurer.

The women will also receive in-house training on the Diversified Billing Program, and Ahner will attend training offered by Benecon Health Services on administering the borough health care insurance.

Council President Bruce Markovich said the office will close for the in-house billing training, and the health services training in Lancaster on April 14 and 15 will cost $159 for room, and $50 per diem.

Parking

Council also handled a number of parking signs Wednesday night.

Grace Community Church will have a parking spot in front of the community center at 47 W. Ridge St. to accommodate the food pantry on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Council also approved waiving the fee associated with that parking spot request. The church’s food pantry serves some 30 seniors and 150 families each month.

Council approved a customer parking sign for Cabrera’s Pizzeria, also on West Ridge Street, and a fee applies. The business already has a sign and parking for its delivery people.

A resident’s request to rent two parking spaces on borough property across from her home on East Snyder Avenue was tabled, pending more research and determination of a fee.

Also approved were handicapped parking signs for 24 Jones St. and 316 E. Abbott St. Council received all the documentation for the signs.

Another handicapped sign request was tabled for 307 W. Abbott St., pending additional information.
