Tamaqua police filed charges of stalking and harassment against Jean Marie Steranka, 64, of Tamaqua, after she left a threatening voice message for a doctor who practices in the borough.
Police officers were contacted March 13 by a security officer at St. Luke’s about the voice message.
In the message, Steranka identifies herself and notes that she has an upcoming preliminary hearing in Tamaqua magistrate court. She mentions the doctor, who police said she has threatened before, and another office employee in the voicemail. Police said she also mentioned that officers confiscated a knife from her during a previous incident.
Police said the voice message caused the doctor and employee to become fearful that Steranka would visit the office and harm them.
Officers said Steranka was charged with trespassing at the medical office in January. In that incident, she was carrying a knife.
She also received certified letters in December and February that told her she is not allowed on the property. Police said she continues to violate the terms and has two trespassing charges pending against her.
