The Tamaqua Area School Board education and finance committees on Tuesday advanced a light list of agenda items to next week’s meeting.
The Education Committee approved the first reading of policies on graduation and transportation.
Superintendent Ray Kinder said the graduation policy change allows for children to apply for honorary diplomas for their parents who are veterans of war.
The transportation policy change deals with the designated number of chaperones, which the district already has in another policy, but are adding the language for consistency, he said.
The committee also approved:
• An agreement with the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for the Student Driver Education Program for the 2024-25 school year.
Kinder said that the district has been doing this for about five years, and students have going for classes with no issues.
• An affiliation agreement with Lebanon Valley College for clinical and practicum experience, effective Feb. 26.
• The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 Induction Plan. Kinder said the district may need to have mentors for two years with the change.
• Early graduation for one 10th-grade student. Students must apply for early graduation in their sophomore year, Kinder said.
Finance
The Finance Committee approved the tax report, four tax refunds, bills totaling $1.13 million for March and interim bills of $207,869; and the budget summary.
The committee also approved the 2023-24 CSIU Accounting, Human Resources and Payroll software agreement at an approximate cost of $22,000. The difference from last year is within $1,000, said Connie Ligenza, business manager, said.
