Pl. Valley student places at DECA competition

A Pleasant Valley High School junior placed in the top 10 at the DECA competition in Hershey on Feb. 21 to 23.

High school co-principal Jonathan Ayre said Lorenzo DeMaio was the only Pleasant Valley student to attend the competition. He competed with a team mate in the Travel and Tourism team in decision-making, and won two medals.

“His competition had 46 teams, so the top 10 is amazing,” Ayre said.

DECA adviser Maria Hafler said Monroe Career and Technical Institute had seven students participate in the competition.

“The competition is designed to determine the skills and knowledge of the competition,” said Hafler, who is a Business and Hospitality Management instructor at MCTI and SkillsUSA adviser.

Although DeMaio will not be moving onto the next level, Hafler agreed that it is amazing that he made it in the top 10 and won medals.
