Zion’s business

Brodheadsville’s Zion Lutheran Church has several things on its calendar, beginning tonight with Lenten service at 7 p.m., and Monroe County Seniors on Friday, opening at 9 a.m.

The Easter flower order deadline is on Sunday after the church’s two worship services.

Art show closes

The Wide Blue Sky art show, by Chester Rideout, at Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center will close tomorrow.

For more information, call the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Soup sale set

Effort UMC will hold one more soup sale this spring. It begins on March 1 and orders will be accepted until March 13. The pick-up date is March 17.

Lenten dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace is hosting Lenten fish dinners from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, and on March 22.

Offered will be two dinners, including a fish & chips dinner and a baked fish dinner. For costs and other details contact the church.

The Western Pocono Community Library invites folks to join in for a special Read Across America Story Time at 10 a.m., Saturday.

QV workshops

Four workshops are being offered at Quiet Valley on Saturday under the banner of Cabin Workshop Day: Pysanky Egg Decorating, Beginner Knitting, Savory & Sweet, and Woven Easter Basket.

AA meetings

McMichaels UMC hosts Alcoholics Anonymous meetings every Wednesday at noon at the church and every Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The meetings are open to all who need to talk and fellowship with those who understand what you are experiencing. One can get the help one needs and desires to overcome one’s problem or maintain your accomplishment.

The meetings are free and confidential.

Sweet event

The Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is holding its first public Maple Sugaring Day on Saturday. A second day is on March 9.

The event includes a 90-minute tour of the sugarbush focusing on the history of maple syrup. Attendees can learn how to “tap” a maple tree to obtain sap, and watch how to cook the sap until it is maple syrup.

Preregistration is required by calling 570-629-3061. There is a cost. Participants may choose a time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lasagna dinner

Effort UMC will be taking pre-orders for a lasagna dinner which will be take-out only and held on March 2. Pickup from 3 to 6 p.m.

The meal includes: lasagna, salad, garlic bread and a dessert. Dinners are being sold individually (single serving). When calling, designate whether one wants the dinner(s) hot or cold. All meals will be cooked.
