The average price for a gallon of gas in Pennsylvania was 3.6 cents lower Tuesday at $3.510 per gallon as compared to $3.546 on Feb. 20, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
The average price in the state was $3.627 on Feb. 27, 2023.
In the Lehigh Valley, the average price Tuesday was $3.392 as compared to $3.448 on Feb. 20. A year ago it was $3.459.
After spiking more than a dime two weeks ago, the national average for a gallon of gas is a half cent lower this week at $3.271.
Today’s average is 16.8 cents more than a month ago but 9.4 cents lower than a year ago. News that the large BP-Whiting refinery in Indiana, offline since early February due to power issues, is reopening soon may have contributed to easing prices at the pump. The refinery processes nearly 440,000 barrels of crude daily, and the shutdown caused gasoline prices throughout the Midwest to rise.
According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand mostly remained flat at 8.2 million barrels per day last week.
