The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting last week:
• Approved a proposal with Vistacom of Allentown to purchase a Poly Cart system for courtrooms 2 and 4 at a cost of $38,116.15. The cost is covered by the correctional facility’s COVID Relief grant.
• Approved a quote from Johnson Controls Fire Protection of Allentown for the installation of six fixed panic buttons connected to wireless transceivers and four wearable wireless panic buttons at the Weatherly District Court office. The total cost is $2,010.41 and will be covered by the AOPC/Office of Judicial District Security 2024 Security grant.
• Approved a quote from Seitz Brothers to provide powder post beetle treatment to the basement area of Lansford Magisterial District Court at a cost of $1,400.
• Ratified an engagement letter with Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir PC of State College to represent Carbon County in the case filed by David H. Zimmerman, et al., vs. Al. Schmidt, acting secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The case has been filed in all 67 counties and deals with mail in ballot counting.

• Hire: Calista G. McClure of Jim Thorpe, clerk, tax assessment, effective Feb. 26.
• Change of status: Carla M. Ferguson of Jim Thorpe, from domestic relations I to domestic relations director, effective Feb. 19.
• Court appointment: Christopher S. Yurchak of Weatherly, summer law clerk, court administration, effective May 13.
• Clerk of Courts appointment: Jessica Haber of Jim Thorpe, deputy clerk, effective Feb. 26.
