Lockdown cleared in Jim Thorpe; suspect in custody

Offices in Jim Thorpe are returning to normal operations after a man allegedly carrying a gun was taken into custody.

Schools and businesses in Jim Thorpe were placed under lockdown this morning after police were notified of a man spotted with a gun along Lentz Trail.

Police canvassed the area and reports that the man was taken into custody just before 11 a.m.

Carbon County Commissioners’ Chairman Michael Sofranko confirmed that the person was in custody and that operations have returned to normal.

He said that Jim Thorpe police are handling the investigation and thanked law enforcement for their response.
