2 fires 10 hours apart in Lehigh Township

Several families have been displaced following two fires Tuesday in Lehigh Township.

Within a span of 10 hours, the Lehigh Township Fire Department responded to two separate fires, according to Lehigh Township Fire Commissioner Rick Hildebrand.

Hildebrand said the first fire broke out around midnight at a single home at 3660 Lehigh Drive.

He said two adults and two children were displaced by the fire, but added there were no injuries.

Hildebrand said the fire broke out in and around the chimney, and that the home had substantial damage.

He said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by a Lehigh Township Fire Company fire marshal.

Surrounding fire companies were called to assist, and the scene was cleared by 3:30 a.m.

He said a second fire broke out just after 10 a.m. at a single home at 4178 Lehigh Drive.

Hildebrand said two adults and two children were displaced by the fire, but added there were no injuries.

He said the fire broke out on the second floor and went up to the attic, and that the home sustained significant damage to the second floor.

Hildebrand said the home is not currently livable, and that the Red Cross is assisting the family.

He said the cause of that fire is also currently under investigation by a Lehigh Township Fire Company fire marshal.

Hildebrand said that surrounding fire companies assisted, and that they cleared the scene at about 12:30 p.m.

Route 248 was closed between Blue Mountain Drive and Cherry Road while crews were at the scene.

“We had people in station that responded immediately due to it being close to the station,” he said. “The fire attack was swift.”
