Despite having received a petition signed by over 400 taxpayers, the Summit Hill Borough Council, on a 4-3 vote, approved the purchase of an 85-foot American LaFrance aerial firetruck for the community at a cost of $65,950.

Stephen Redash presented the petition on behalf of the people who signed it, approximately 80 of whom attended the council session.

Voting in favor of the purchase were Albert Williams, Patrick Kane, John Carnish and John Bevich. Opposed were Cosmo Arieta, Joseph Kozuch and Edward Kane. The latter opposed the purchase because he wanted to buy a Mack Truck for the firemen.
