ON THIS DATE FEBRUARY 16, 1967

Roger Latzgo, a Palmerton Area High School student, was named winner of the Carbon County Boys’ Oratorical Contest held last night in Panther Valley High School, Lansford.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Latzgo of 759 Franklin Ave., Palmerton, he was selected over four other boys with his topic of “Let’s Dare to be Square.”

Other contestants were Jacob Llewellyn, Jim Thorpe, “Warnings From Within,” John Hartzog, Weatherly, “Grim Reaper – An Honorable Way of Dying,” George Pisanick, Panther Valley, “Age of the Shrug,” and Arthur P. Leister, Lehighton, “Friction between the Moving Parts of the World.”

Attys. John and Marianne Lavelle of Lehighton and Sidney P. Webb of Palmerton served as judges for the competition.
