Valentine’s dinner

The Legion Post home in Gilbert will serve a Valentine’s Day dinner special from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 15.

Ash Wednesday

This special day is celebrated by many Christian denominations in various ways. The West End News listing includes the following:

Effort UMC will begin its Lenten study on Ash Wednesday with Jeff Albert leading participants on a Lenten Journey that will be biblically grounded, challenging and fun.

The study will begin with soup and salad in Wesley Hall from 5:30 to 6 p.m. with the study to follow from 6 to 6:50 p.m.

Attendees will make it out in time for the Lenten Service at 7 p.m. with the Imposition of Ashes.

There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Early sign-up was requested so the church would know how many books to order and how much soup and salad to prepare.

McMichaels UMC is hosting an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. with an Imposition of Ashes.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will hold Ash Wednesday Mass at 7 p.m. Prayer services with ashes will be held at 4 and 5 p.m.

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Brodheadsville, has been invited to attend service hosted by First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg today at 6 p.m. Anyone interested can contact the church at 570-992-0158 for the possibility of arranging a carpool.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will hold services at 7 p.m. with Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, will hold its Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is having an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is having an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, Ashes to Go will be distributed from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for anyone unable to attend worship. A 7 p.m. worship service will be held with Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.

WP Lions meeting

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at noon tomorrow at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.

League meeting

The West End Little League is holding its monthly open meeting at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

Valentine’s potluck

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian has planned a Valentine’s Day potluck for the church family again.

It will be held Friday, Feb. 16, beginning at 6 p.m.

Bring a dish to share. It is for church adults who are asked to bring a friend or two. See Ann or call the church office for more information.

Lenten dinner

The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring Lenten fish dinners at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church this Friday, and two more in March. Offered are two different-priced types of fish dinners and free pizza for children under the age of 10.

Soup Bowl events

The youth group at OLQP Church will be collecting donations after all the Masses this weekend to help the hungry in the area.

All proceeds will go to PVEN.

Purpose series

The theme for this month’s worship services at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, is Our Purpose. This Sunday, the focus is Trust, as based on Psalm 25:1-9 and 1 Peter 3:18-22.

Contemporary choir

On Sunday, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, the Contemporary Choir will be featured.

Senior luncheon

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding its next Senior Luncheon at 1 p.m. Monday after the 12:10 Mass.

Eldred Supervisors

The next Eldred Township board of supervisors’ meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the municipal building in Kunkletown.

Free dinner told

Zion Lutheran is serving its next free community dinner, by way of drive-through, from 5 to 6 p.m., Feb. 21. It will include baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, fruit cup and a dessert.

Workshops at Quiet Valley

Four offerings are being offered at Quiet Valley on March 2 under the banner of

Cabin Workshop Day: Pysanky Egg Decorating, Beginner Knitting, Savory & Sweet, and Woven Easter Basket.

Philly flower show

A Philadelphia Flower Show bus trip hosted by Chestnuthill Township’s Park Commission will be held on March 4.

Attendees are to be at the site at 7:45 a.m. The bus leaves at 8 a.m. The return trip will be back to Brodheadsville by 7 p.m.
