The driver of box truck was seriously injured this afternoon when a large piece of ice came off a tractor trailer and went through his windshield.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the turnpike at the 77 mile marker. The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby trauma center.

Franklin township firefighters assisted at the scene assisting with the victim and maintaining traffic control. Pocono state police are investigating the incident. The operator of the rig apparently was not aware of the incident and continued on.
