Nesquehoning man charged after barricade, assaulting deputies
A Nesquehoning man faces resisting arrest and aggravated assault charges when Carbon County sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve a bench warrant.
Leonard Rehatchek III, 35, was arraigned Friday by District Judge Beth Dodson on charges of aggravated assault, disarming law enforcement and three counts of resisting arrest.
He was jailed in the Carbon County prison in lieu of $125,000 bail.
According to court papers, deputies attempted to serve a warrant on Rehatchek on Jan. 22 at a home in the 200 block of Stock Street.
Rehatchek attempted to jump out of a second-floor window and then retreated back inside, seeing a deputy and acting aggressive toward her, court papers said.
A female inside the home gave deputies consent to search, and Rehatchek barricaded himself in a second-floor bedroom, court papers said.
Deputies attempted to speak to him through a bedroom door and told him multiple times that he was under arrest. Rehatchek refused to come out, screaming profanities and opening and closing the door, court papers said.
Deputies attempted to deploy a Taser, and Rehatchek grabbed the device and attempted to disarm the deputy, court papers said.
The deputy regained control of the Taser, and deputies attempted to gain entry and again tried to deploy the Taser unsuccessfully, court papers said.
Deputies finally entered the room where Rehatchek became aggressive and struggled with deputies, court papers said.
Even after deputies got Rehatchek to the ground, he continued to struggle, elbowing a deputy in the face and breaking his glasses, court papers said. Rehatchek continued to resist – grabbing, kicking, pulling away from and elbowing deputies, court papers said.
After deputies restrained Rehatchek, he used his body weight to knock deputies to the floor as they were exiting the home, court papers said. Deputies then used a Taser on him for officers’ safety, and en route to the prison, Rehatchek threatened officers, court papers said.
