Families in Lehighton shouldn’t encounter any dry spells in activities this year.

On a 6-1 vote, borough council last week approved the events request from the borough’s Parks and Recreation Committee.

Among the events approved include:

• Music in the Park.

• Christmas in the Park.

• Pick Up PA - Keep Lehighton Beautiful.

• Community Block Party on the Fourth of July.

Of those, the Pick Up PA - Keep Lehighton Beautiful, and the Community Block Party are new, as noted by Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky.

Abelovsky said the Community Block Party would be the lead up to the annual fireworks display held later that evening and would be held around the Lower Park in front of Constitution Avenue.

It would include music, and an enclosed beer garden tent.

Abelovsky, who cast the sole vote in opposition, explained “I do not agree with having alcohol in parks. My vote is only no because of alcohol. I want all the other events.”
