Blue Bombers’ Machalik is named Colonial League boys basketball co-MVP

Palmerton’s Matt Machalik was named the Colonial League boys co-MVP, as voted on by the Colonial League Boys Basketball Coaches Association.

Machalik, who is averaging 21.77 points per game this season and helped the Blue Bombers capture the league’s West Division title, shared the honor with Notre Dame’s Colin Boyle.

Two other area players joined Machalik on the CL First Team. They are Palmerton’s Brayden Hosier and Northwestern’s Gavin Nelson.

Hosier, also a senior, has tallied 18.68 points per contest and was key in the Bombers posting a 14-8 regular season record.

Nelson, meanwhile, is a junior and is the team’s leading scorer. His 16.17 ppg average helped the Tigers post a 15-7 regular-season record and earn a berth in the league playoffs.

Nelson’s teammate, Shane Marth, was selected to the Second Team, while fellow Northwestern player Eli Zimmerman was named Honorable Mention.

Northern Lehigh was also represented on the team as Connor Simms was also an Honorable Mention selection.
