State Police at Schuylkill Haven

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks reported the following:

• Kenneth Hengen, 34, of New Ringgold, and Ashley Shellhammer, 36, of Schuylkill Haven, were committed to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, on burglary charges after they were arrested at 3:51 p.m. Jan. 31.

Police said they were arraigned before an on-call district justice and jailed after failing to post bail.

They said the burglary happened at Pennsy Supply, 2225 Fair Road, Wayne Township, where the two forced their way into a building and removed items totaling $2,656.99. Police said they were apprehended about a quarter-mile from the scene.

• Deborah D. Chitwood, 65, of Orwigsburg, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:35 p.m. Jan. 31 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

Police said she had minor injuries that did not require a medical transport.

They said the crash occurred when a 2013 Toyota Tacoma driven by Kylie M. Marier, 28, of Frackville, traveling north, failed to stop for a steady red signal while traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by Chitwood.

Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed from the scene.

Marier and a 4-year-old girl in her vehicle, as well as an 86-year-old woman with Chitwood were all uninjured.

Marier was cited for the crash.

• Police said nine catalytic converters worth an estimated $1,800 were reported stolen off vehicles at EZ To Own, North Manheim Township, at 1:23 p.m. Jan. 27.

Police said the thefts occurred in the late hours of Jan. 26.

• Edward Martofel, 51, of Mahanoy Plane, is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a traffic stop police made at 11:19 p.m. Feb. 3 at the intersection of Walnut and Ann streets in Saint Clair Borough.

He was driving a 2000 Chevrolet S10 when police stopped him for a traffic violation.
