Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 7

Palmerton finished the regular season with a victory over Pocono Mountain East on Wednesday.

In other action, Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua both recorded wrestling wins.

BOYS BASKETBALL

PM East-Palmerton

Palmerton closed out regular-season play with a 66-54 non-league victory over Pocono Mountain East.

Matt Machalik pumped in a game-high 30 points to lead the Blue Bombers.

Machalik scored 10 of his points in the opening quarter as Palmerton raced to a 10-point advantage.

The winners, 14-8, also received 20 points from Brayden Hosier.

For the Cardinals (10-11), Tarmis Jones tallied a team-high 19 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Executive Ed.-Jim Thorpe

Executive Education used a big second quarter to take control and went on to post a 54-39 non-league victory over Jim Thorpe.

Tiana Carey scored seven of her team-high 15 points in the second frame as the Raptors (12-9) broke away from a tie score with a 23-8 period.

The Olympians (0-22) were led by Sarah Hartman’s game-high 16 points, while Kiara Ginopolas chipped in with nine.

Tri-Valley-Weatherly

Tri-Valley pulled away from Weatherly in the second half to gain a 36-21 Schuylkill League win.

The Wreckers trailed by just one at the half, but Grace Header recorded eight points in the third quarter to help the Bulldogs extend their lead to 11.

Header finished with a game-high 12 points for Tri-Valley, now 2-19 overall and 2-10 in the league.

Bethany Houser ended with eight points to pace Weatherly (3-18; 0-13).

Jim Thorpe used five pins to help gain a 48-19 victory over Mahanoy Area.

The Olympians received falls from Jared Mantilla (133), Richard Kenna (152), Aiden Sterling (215), Christian Ortiz (114) and Stephen Korte (121).

Cael Heaney (160) and Nikolas Schwartz (172) both also chipped in with decision wins.
