Thrift store open

The Eldred Community Center Thrift Store in Kunkletown is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

To bring donations one can do so from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

PVE PTO meets

The Pleasant Valley Elementary Center PTO will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. today.

Dinner tomorrow

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will host its West End Missions dinner Thursday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

WE Little League

The board of directors of the West End Little League are slated to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville.

The open-to-public meeting follows next week Wednesday.

MCCD’s new display

The work of Chester Rideout will be on display in the Gallery at Kettle Creek through Feb 29. Entitled The Wide Blue Sky, the display is a collection off his many adventures and the resulting photographs, though he is now deceased, dying this past June from ALS.

Community supper

A Community Sunday Supper is held at 3 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville.

K of C meeting

The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

AA meeting host

McMichaels UMC hosts Alcoholics Anonymous meetings every Wednesday at noon at the church and every Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The meetings are open to all who need to talk and fellowship with those who understand what one is experiencing. One can get the help one needs and desires to overcome one’s problem or maintain one’s accomplishment. The meetings are free and confidential.

Valentine’s dinner

The Legion Post home in Gilbert will serve a Valentine’s Day dinner special from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on both Feb. 10 and Feb. 15.

Women’s Club officers

Serving as officers for the Western Pocono Women’s Club for 2024 are: Lisa Altemose, president; Linda Troia, 1st vice president; Vicki Connor, 2nd vice president; Linda Silverberg, secretary; and Sue Shupp, treasurer

Those officers will be installed at 7 p.m. March 18, and new members will be inducted.

Serving refreshments that evening will be Linda Kresge, Darlene Beers, Cathy Bruno, Fern Smith, and Vicki Connor.

PVEN needs

The Pleasant Valley Valley Ecumenical Network is in need of cereal, canned tuna fish, juice, canned pasta sauce, canned pasta such as ravioli and Beef-a-Roni and peanut butter & and jelly for its food pantry.

Also being requested, but for the Clothing Pantry, are gloves, hats, mittens, scarves, towels, bedding, personal care items, adult diapers, baby wipes, bladder control pads and baby and toddler diapers.

Breakfast held

McMichaels UMC will hold a donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.

A complete breakfast is served, including beverages.

Takeout is available.

Effort pantry open

Effort UMC’s pantry, the Supplemental Food Resource Center will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Valentine’s Dance

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be the site for a Valentine’s Day dance from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, as sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Effort Women meet

The Women’s Group of Effort will next meet at 7 p.m., Monday.

The program is a business meeting and includes the finalization of the 2024 budget.

Hostesses are Alma Middleton and Lucy Boomer.

Woodcarvers sought

The former Pocono Woodcarvers could use a few carvers in their group. That group now meets from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in LaBar Village rather than at Cherry Lane UMC.

Time change

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced its time change for the Teaching Little Children, to Love Christ, to Live Catholic for the little ones.

That change begins on Feb. 12.

The time will be 10 to 11:30 a.m.
