Monroe DA says woman fell to her death at jail

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and state police are investigating the death of a female inmate early Sunday morning at the Monroe County Correctional Facility.

Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac confirmed the death of the 43-year-old woman, and said that he has completed an autopsy. The cause of death will be released toxicology tests. It will take eight weeks for all the results to return.

Yanac said the death could be suspicious or accidental, because “everything is on the table.” He just doesn’t know at this time.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office reported that the woman fell from the upper tier at MCCF. She was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono where she was pronounced dead.
