Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 2

Both Palmerton basketball teams posted wins on Friday.

Other teams to pick up victories included the Marian, Northwestern and Lehighton boys.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-Marian

Five Marian players reached double-digit scoring as the Colts posted a 78-47 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Julius Currie scored seven of his game-high 21 points in the opening quarter as Marian gained a nine-point advantage.

Jacob Miller added 19 points, while Bruce Hopeck contributed 15. The winners, who improved to 12-8 overall and 7-4 in the league, also received 12 from Jesse Rodino and 11 from James Rodino.

The Wreckers (2-16; 1-11) were led by Austyn Lamonica, who tallied 20. Corbin Wagner also tossed in 15.

No. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern scored a season-high in points during its 84-53 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Gavin Nelson scored a team-high 18 points for the Tigers, who led by 28 at halftime.

Mason Bollinger tallied 13 for the winners, who assured themselves of a berth in the league playoffs. Eli Zimmerman also added 10.

The Bulldogs were led by Connor Simms, who finished with a game-high 21 points. The visitors also received 13 from Dare-Rious Smith.

Northwestern is now 13-7 overall and 11-5 in the league. Nolehi fell to 2-19 and 0-16.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Cole Dietz scored a game-high 22 points to lead Lehighton past Pine Grove 58-45 in Schuylkill League action.

Dietz hit four three-pointers for the Indians (14-7, 6-7 SL). Blake Roberts added 13 points for the winners.

Hayden Felty’s 15 points paced the Cardinals (2-18, 1-12). Chase Sarge scored 12 points.

LEHIGHTON

Salisbury-Palmerton

Palmerton jumped out to an early lead and maintained the advantage in earning a 63-52 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Matt Machalik and Brayden Hosier both scored eight points in the first quarter as the Blue Bombers gained a 10-point margin.

Machalik finished with a game-high 27 points, while Hosier ended with 12. The winners also received 11 from Corey Serfass.

For the Falcons, Bryan Gonzalez hit for a team-high 16 points.

Palmerton improved to 12-8 overall and lead the CL West Division with a 12-4 mark. The loss dropped Salisbury to 13-8 and 10-6.

North Schuylkill eventually pulled away from Jim Thorpe for a 64-52 victory.

The Olympians only trailed by eight at the half, but the Spartans used a 16-8 third quarter to widen the gap.

Jack Keiter scored six of his 12 points in the third frame to help the winners take control. Zane Zulkowski topped North Schuylkill with 17 points, while Logan Carl chipped in with 11.

For Thorpe, Pierce Gothard poured in 17 points and Aaron Curran contributed 15.

The Spartans are now 15-6 overall and 10-3 in the league. The Olympians dipped to 1-20 and 0-13.

Palmerton’s run of dominance continued with a 51-24 win over Salisbury in Colonial League action.

Sydney Frantz hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points for the Bombers (19-1), who extended their winning streak to 11 games. Hannah Barry added nine points in the win.

Maya Suleiman led the Falcons (3-17) with six points.

Pierce had 14 points and Aponte added for the Olympians.

Moyer led the Indians with six points.
