State trooper injured in turnpike incident

A Pennsylvania State Trooper was injured during an incident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

State police at Bethlehem said Jessie Sparenberg, 42, of Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and driving under the influence after police responded to an incident on Nov. 17, 2023, on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Police said in a recent report that the trooper from the Pocono barracks responded to a hit-and-run crash in the area of mile marker 63.1 in North Whitehall Township and found Sparenberg walking around, acting erratically in the lane of travel.

As the trooper attempted to escort him from the lane of travel, Sparenberg became combative, during which time both men ended up on the ground and the trooper was kicked in the wrist several times.

Police said a 2021 Jeep Compass was involved in the incident and the victim is a 24-year-old man from White Haven.
