Ian McGregor, 38, of Coaldale, was charged with assaulting a woman and then resisting arrest around 5 p.m. Jan. 28, borough police said.
According to police, officers were called to the 100 block of East High Street for an assault in progress. While there, a woman told police that McGregor grabbed her by her wrists and threw her to the floor. Police said she had a bloody wound inside her mouth, bruised wrists and a contusion on her head.
Police said McGregor was shouting obscenities from the front porch.
Officers told him to place his hands behind his back, but he refused and continued shouting.
As police approached McGregor, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol. Officers said he continued to shout and refuse police orders to put his hands behind his back.
Police then displayed a stun gun and told him to turn around. When he refused to do so, police deployed the stun gun, and McGregor fell. Police said he continued to refuse orders to place his hands behind his back, so they physically forced him into handcuffs and called an ambulance.
After McGregor was in custody, police told him that he did not have to say anything or answer their questions. He said he understood, then apologized for not listening and “acting aggressively” toward the officer.
McGregor was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Coaldale police charged him with resisting arrest, simple assault, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
