Both Northwestern basketball teams earned Colonial League wins over Southern Lehigh on Monday.

Other winners included the Tamaqua, Marian and Panther Valley girls, as well as Northern Lehigh’s wrestling team.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-So. Lehigh

Northwestern jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 58-37 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Shane Marth hit for 10 of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Tigers built a 19-6 advantage.

The winners, who are now 12-6 overall and 10-4 in the league, also received 11 points from Gavin Nelson.

Sean McMeanamy paced the Spartans (7-12; 6-8) with eight points.

Palmerton-Bangor

Hunter McShane scored 11 of team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to help Bangor hold off Palmerton for a 55-49 Colonial League victory.

The Slaters led by one after three quarters, but put up 23 points in the final frame to secure the win.

Matt Machalik paced the Blue Bombers with a game-high 20 points, while Brayden Hosier chipped in with nine.

The loss puts Palmerton at 10-8 overall and 10-4 in the league. Bangor improved to 10-8 and 10-5.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-So. Lehigh

Emma Freeman hit seven three-pointers to help Northwestern end a two-game losing streak and defeat Southern Lehigh 60-48 in Colonial League action.

Freeman finished with 21 points for the Tigers, who are 15-4 overall and 10-4 in the league.

Cara Thomas added 19 points, with 11 of them coming at the free throw line. The winners also received 11 points from Brook Balliet.

For the Spartans, now 4-15 and 3-11, Tessa Seagreaves netted a game-high 23 points.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Tamaqua held off a late Pine Grove rally to earn a 37-33 Schuylkill League victory.

Kolbe Robb had a team-high 11 points and seven steals for the Blue Raiders, who led by nine after three quarters.

The winners, who outscored their opponent 16-6 at the foul line, also received eight points from Sarah Hope.

Addison Zimmerman tallied 11 points for the Cardinals, who dropped to 7-12 overall and 4-9 in the league.

Tamaqua upped its mark to 14-6 and 7-5.

The Raiders also won the JV game, 52-42, behind 25 points from Leah Black.

Shenandoah Vy.-Marian

Four Marian players reached double-digit scoring as the Fillies squeezed past Shenandoah Valley, 53-46, in Schuylkill League action.

Addy Fritz and Carly Hasara both finished with 12 points for the winners in a game that was tied at halftime.

Marian, who was without recent 1,000-point scorer Carly Minchhoff, also received 10 points apiece from Frankie Martinelli and Deanna Pugh.

Ava Menjivar topped the Devils with a game-high 20 points.

The Fillies are now 17-2 overall and 10-1 in the league, while Shenandoah slipped to 9-11 and 4-7.

Maddison Maynard and Morgan Orsulak both had double-doubles to lead Panther Valley to a 51-39 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Maynard finished with a game-high 15 points and 10 boards, while Orsulak collected 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The winners, who improved to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the league, also received 11 points from Natalie Vermillion.

Liv Peleschak topped the Tide with 11 points.

Olivia Burke scored a game-high 17 points to lead North Schuylkill to a 37-24 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

The Spartans, who held the Indians scoreless in the second period after the two teams played to an 8-8 first-quarter tie, also received 11 points from Hayley Koutch.

Emma Repsher paced Lehighton with nine points.

The Indians, now 10-10 overall and 5-7 in the league, need to win one of their final two games to clinch a district playoff berth. North Schuylkill, meanwhile, improved to 15-2 and 11-1.

Brooke Kopinetz poured in 30 points, including seven three-pointers, to lead Minersville to an 85-12 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Miners, who have won seven games in a row and are now 17-2 overall and 10-1 in the league, finished the contest with 13 treys. Keera Brennan also contributed 17 points.

For the Wreckers, Kelly Reiner tallied a team-high five points.

Weatherly dropped to 2-15 and 0-11.

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe

Blue Mountain remained tied atop the Schuylkill League Division 1 standings by defeating Jim Thorpe, 64-28.

Kylie Conway scored a game-high 17 points for the Eagles, who led 22-2 after the first quarter.

The winners are now 16-4 overall and tied with North Schuylkill at 10-1 in the league.

Sarah Hartman topped the Olympians with 12 points, while Jaylah Yeakel added eight.

Thorpe fell to 0-18 and 0-12.

BLUE MOUNTAIN

Cody Mazzocca’s pin in the final match lifted Northern Lehigh to a 36-34 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

Mazzocca, at 127 pounds, earned the fall at the 3:01 mark to help the Bulldogs win their third straight and improve to 6-9.

Nolehi also received pins from Skyler Loos (145) and Mason Rothrock (152).
