The Panthers Valley boys basketball team clinched a district playoff berth with a win on Saturday, while Panther wrestler Brenda Banks earned another tournament title on Sunday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Panther Vy.-Roberto Clemente

Panther Valley clinched a district playoff berth with a convincing 63-44 non-league victory over Roberto Clemente.

Logan Fisher scored 10 of his 14 points in the third quarter as the Panthers used a 19-4 period to extend an eight-point halftime lead.

Chase Weaver scored a game-high 23 points for PV, which improved to 11-7.

Logan Henegan led Roberto Clemente (2-11) with 15 points.

Panther Valley also won the JV game, 76-32, as Danny Wehr had a game-high 25 points.

Lehighton-Salem Christian

Lehighton rolled to a 76-25 non-league victory over Salem Christian.

Joe Roth scored 12 of his team-high 14 points in the first half, and Blake Roberts tallied all 11 of his points in the first two quarters as the Indians raced to a 40-8 advantage.

The winners also received 13 points from Talin Fairchild and 12 from Cole Dietz.

Mike Marinan paced Salem with a game-high 16 points.

Lehighton, which has won all eight of its non-league games this season, upped its record to 13-6 while the Eagles fell to 1-13.

Palmerton’s Matt Machalik scored a game-high 21 points, but it wasn’t enough as Northampton held off the Blue Bombers, 63-55, in a non-league contest.

J. J. Kolumber tallied 19 points and Noah Walakovits added 15 for the Konkrete Kids (12-6).

Brayden Hosier added 13 points to the Palmerton cause.

The loss dropped the Bombers to 10-7.

Weatherly-Salem Christian

Taylor Davidovich came up with a steal and layup with 8.6 seconds left in the game to give Weatherly a 32-30 non-league victory over Salem Christian.

The win snapped the Wreckers’ 14-game losing streak.

Davidovich finished with a team-high 10 points, while Kelly Reiner and Bethany Houser both chipped in with seven.

The Eagles, now 5-9, received 10 points from Becky Held.

Weatherly improved to 2-14.

A strong first half propelled Minersville to a 64-39 non-league victory over Tamaqua.

Kaycee Raczka scored a game-high 20 points for the Miners, who led by 19 at the break and finished the game with 12 three-pointers.

The winners, now 16-2 overall and 9-1 in the league, also received 19 points from Taylor Conti.

Kolbe Robb netted a season-high 16 points and had five steals for the Blue Raiders, while Kendle Miller added nine points.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 13-6.

Panther Valley

at the Battle of the Buck

Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks added another championship to her resume by winning the 235-pound weight class as the Battle of the Buck on Sunday.

Banks posted a 3-0 decision over Quakertown’s Peyton Fries in the semifinals before registering a pin at the 1:57 mark of the finals against Souderton’s MacKenna Atkinson.

The PV sophomore is now 17-0 this season.

The Panthers also received sixth-place finishes from both Anelia Bennick (155) and Alisa Williams (170).
