Schuylkill prison inmate sentenced for contraband

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Daquon Brooks, 25, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution, Schuylkill, in Minersville, was sentenced Thursday in federal court to serve an additional 12 months in prison on the charge of possession of contraband in prison.

Brooks, formerly of Washington, D.C., previously pleaded guilty and admitted to possessing a dangerous prison-made weapon, commonly known as a “shank.” In April 2023, staff at FCI Schuylkill found Brooks in possession of the weapon.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Service. Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara is prosecuting the case.

At the time of the incident at FCI Schuylkill, Brooks was serving a sentence from Washington D.C. for assault with a dangerous weapon and stalking. That sentence does not expire until 2033. The sentence imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Julia K. Munley will run consecutive to the Washington, D.C. sentence.
