Pl. Valley joins hunt for business manager

Pleasant Valley School District’s business manager has decided to retire.

During the school board meeting Thursday night, it was announced that Michael Simonetta, the school district’s business manager, intends to retire at the end of this school year. His retirement will be effective June 30.

Simonetta joined the school district in May 2021 with a salary of $145,000. He replaced Susan Famularo, who retired as the business manager on Dec. 31, 2020.

Prior to coming to Pleasant Valley, Simonetta was the chief operating officer for the Easton Area School District. In November 2023, he won a seat for a four-year-term on the EASD school board.

“I know you’ve only been with us for three short years, but I want to thank you for your leadership. I want to thank you for moving us forward,” said school board President Sue Kresge. “Financially, we are in a better place and it’s your leadership, everyone’s leadership, but we were in a much better place, and I want to thank you. I want to wish you well. I know we still have a few months, but we are approving it this evening.”

“I appreciate it. I gave that much notice, because it’s probably going to take that long for me to write a good letter to the board and this community,” Simonetta said. “Short story is, as I said to Dr. Konrad, in the three short years I can honestly say that it’s probably been the highlight of my career and it’s almost 40 years by the way. It’s been a great group, and a great community. Great staff, great administration to work.”

Also retiring is middle school teacher Laura Anglemyer. Her retirement is effective Feb. 16.

Kresge said, “I would just like to congratulate Ms. Anglemyer on her retirement. We wish you all the best. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us.”
