Coroner reports on fire death

A Franklin Township man is dead from blast force injuries after a garage caught fire early Wednesday morning.

Steve Sensinger, 58, was pronounced dead Wednesday in his garage at 285 Canal St., Franklin Township.

An autopsy was conducted Thursday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

Sensinger was pronounced dead in his garage at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday by Carbon County Coroner Mark K. Smith.

Smith said autopsy revealed that Sensinger died of blast force injuries, and the manner of death is ruled accidental. A dog inside the buildings survived.

State Police at Lehighton, in a release, said that Sensinger was “experimenting with explosives, which caused the accidental blast.”

State Police Troop N fire marshal unit and Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.
