Fourteen cars of a 110-car Lehigh Valley Railroad freight train en route from Sayre, PA, to Allentown, derailed early this morning at the Route 248 Palmerton cloverleaf underpass.

The derailment occurred at 1:41 this morning as the train was going through the underpass, with the 47th car in the freight leaving the tracks and 13 others following.

While the head of the train continued on its trip to Allentown, the read end of the freight was pulled back to Lehighton and rerouted over LVRR tracks along the west bank of the Lehigh River.

The derailment happened on the former Central Railroad of New Jersey tracks on the east side of the river.
