Local roundup: Results from Jan. 23

The Tamaqua boys and girls swimming teams each recorded victories on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Northern Lehigh’s girls basketball extended its winning streak to nine games.

SWIMMING

Sch. Haven-Tamaqua

Jathan Krall and Savannah Wilson each racked up a total of four wins as Tamaqua swept Schuylkill Haven in Schuylkill League action.

Krall posted victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle events, and helped the team win in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays as the Blue Raiders won the boys meet 128-15.

Jacob Hehn (100 butterfly), Jack Tharp (100 backstroke), Ethan DiBonifazio (100 breaststroke) and Stephen Behun (50 freestyle) also picked up wins in the boys meet.

Wilson took home the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke events as Tamaqua posted a 116-61 victory in the girls meet. Wilson was also on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Lexi Buchala, who also was on the 400 freestyle relay, won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events for the Blue Raider.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northern Lehigh-Salisbury

Northern Lehigh’s hot streak continued with a 62-26 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Katelyn Barthold sparked the Bulldogs (12-6 overall; 9-4 CL) on offense, as she poured in 17 of her game-high 22 points before half. Aubrey Pollard scored 14 of her 18 points before intermission, as the Bulldogs took a commanding 42-7 lead into the break. Teegan Simms added 12.

Anissa Slack paced the Falcons (3-12; 1-11) with a team-high nine points.

Olivia Schweitzer scored 18 points to help Notre Dame Green Pond post a 48-36 win over Northwestern in Colonial League action.

Emily Lessig added 11 points for the Crusaders (14-3).

Cara Thomas led the Tigers (14-3), who had won five in a row, with 15 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven turned back Marian to claim a 61-53 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Marian.

Julius Currie connected for three three-pointers for nine of his team-high 14 points to help the Colts (9-8 overall; 4-4 SL) take a 33-32 lead into halftime.

It was short lived, as the Hurricanes’ (16-2 overall; 7-2 SL) Jake Jewan drained 14 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, and went 8-for-10 at the foul line to help Haven seal the win. Nigel Kuzanga added 13 points for the Hurricanes, while Leyden Hertz and Logan Carl both scored 11.

Jesse Rodino scored 13 points for the Colts, while Bruce Hopeck added 11.

Jake Zellin buried four treys and led the Falcons (11-7) with a game-high 23 points as the team hit 11 threes.

Connor Simms led the Bulldogs (2-16) with 22 points and connected for six of the team’s eight three-pointers. Kellen Bauer also had a double-digit night for Northern Lehigh with 12 points.

Colin Boyle led the way for the Crusaders (15-2 overall; 13-0 CL) with 23 points, while Dainn Vassallo scored 12. Isaiah Miles and Daniel Darno both contributed 10.

Gavin Nelson paced the Tigers (11-5; 9-3) with 23 points. Mason Bollinger scored 13, and Eli Zimmerman and Shane Marth added 11 apiece.
