Work began Monday to replace the Route 715 bridge over McMichael Creek in Chestnuthill Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

The two-span stone masonry arch bridge is being replaced with a single-span concrete arch culvert.

Beginning Monday Route 715 is closed and detoured while crews replace the bridge. Traffic is being detoured on Camp Akiba and Sterling roads.

Truck traffic is being detoured on Sugar Hollow Road, State Road, Route 115, Route 209, Greenview Drive and Neola Road.

Road-Con Inc. of West Chester is the general contractor on the $1,505,741 project that is anticipated to be done in May.

The Route 715 bridge was built in 1910. It was 23-feet long, 23-feet wide and was posted with a 15-ton weight restriction.

The new bridge will be 32-feet long, 36-feet wide and will have no weight restriction. This section of Route 715 has an average daily traffic volume of 5,245 vehicles.
