Schuylkill Historical society upcoming events

The Schuylkill County Historical Society has announced the following upcoming events.

“Ten North Frederick”

“Ten North Frederick” by John O’Hara will be the subject of the Local Reads book club’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 (the anniversary of the author’s birth) at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Rex Roberts, who was the associate editor of the John O’Hara Journal, will discuss the novel.

Winter Carnival memorabilia

The Schuylkill County Historical Society will feature an exhibit of Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival memorabilia in its building at 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in conjunction with Schuylkill Winterfest.

History fair

The Schuylkill County Coalition of Historical Societies will hold its annual History Fair at the Fairlane Village Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. The societies and vendors will have exhibits and items for sale.

Pottsville Maroons

The Schuylkill County Historical Society is taking reservations for a mixer for fans of the 1920s Pottsville Maroons NFL team from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at Arrow Studio and Events, 316 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Maroons memorabilia will be on display, and an expert will discuss the team’s history. Beer, wine and tailgate food will be available.

Pysanky eggs

Renowned folk artist Georgine Postupak-Borchick will teach two pysanky egg-making classes at the Schuylkill County Historical, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville, both at 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 and March 1. Supplies will be provided.
