Sorority News

The members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held a Christmas party in December. Members enjoyed dinner catered by Two Kings and exchanged gifts.

Some members of the chapter attended the Holly Trail in Orwigsburg in December. Proceeds of this event benefit the Orwigsburg Public Library.

At their recent meeting, members voted to donate $50 to the Tamaqua Public Library. We will also donate bingo prizes to the Hometown Nursing Center at our Jan. 24 meeting. The chapter will also attend a performance of “Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” at the F.M. Kirby Center on April 13.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Kim will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and evening service at 6:30 p.m.

Prayer meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Women at Risk International will present a program on information regarding human trafficking on Jan. 27 at 2 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:30.

The Chosen will be shown at 2 p.m. this Sunday in the social hall.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Jan. 11 with 21 members in attendance. The group president opened the meeting with the reading “Lord Help Me.” Guests Celia Tucker and Kathy Arner were given a warm welcome.

2024 dues are being collected.

The group meets at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Garden Club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club will hold it’s annual reorganization meeting at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the social hall of Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Also covered dish buffet will be enjoyed with members having last names A to H providing the main course and last names K to W, dessert.

Members are asked to bring their ideas for themes for monthly arrangements and any programs they can provide for the meetings.

Snow removal

Snow removal may be done on various streets in Tamaqua during the winter season.

Streets will be posted the day before snow removal is scheduled, and starting times will vary depending on work schedules and weather conditions.

Residents are reminded that they must move their vehicles for snow removal. Vehicles that remain on the posted streets will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Snow removal schedules will be posted on the borough’s Facebook page and website at www.tamaquaborough.com.
