January 18, 1983 - The Palmerton girls get off to a quick start and hold off Pocono Mountain 55-48 in a playoff game to decide the Centennial League first half championship. Karyn Dakan and Wendy George both hit a pair of shots early in the contest as the Blue Bombers, coached by Bill Piper, race to an 18-4 advantage. The Cardinals close within four points late in the game but Anne Searles converts three free throws to seal the win. George finishes with a team-high 14 points, while Dakan ends with 12. Searles also chips in with 11.
