Chestnuthill repair shop gets conditional use approval
Chestnuthill Township supervisors approved Christosa Holdings LLC’s conditional use of properties on Firehouse Lane to build a diesel repair shop during their monthly meeting Tuesday night.
Chairman Chuck Gould and supervisor Roger Kutzler voted in favor. Vice Chairman Eric Snyder excused himself from the vote.
Anne and Steven Hnatowicz own Christosa Holdings. Their company owns two of the properties on Firehouse Lane and the third property is owned by their son, Thomas Hnatowicz and business partner Dustin Gilpin.
The plan would be to merge the lots and lease to Pocono ATR, a truck repair shop. The business will have 16 parking spots.
“We have owned Pocono ATR for three years, and it has been a mobile business. We go to campgrounds, shops and other places to work on heavy trucks, cars and RVs. Our vision is to open a shop,” said Gilpin after the meeting.
The two worked together for 10 years at Peterbilt before starting their own company. They both do the repair work and the paperwork involved with the business.
Gould said there were about 18 conditions that had to be met, including measures to prevent soil contamination and trees and other vegetation as sight buffers.
Nothing has been built yet, and no start date has been given.
Not everyone was happy with the supervisors’ decision.
Township resident Desiree Murray’s property is near the proposed diesel repair shop. She wanted to know more about the conditions and assurance that each condition will be met. She wants an adequate tree buffer, which was one of conditions in the plan. She is also concerned about the environmental impact of the shop.
At a Nov. 15 planning commission meeting residents voiced concern over the project.
The planning commission listed concerns about hours of operation, noise, exhaust in the building and fumes outside, restricting work to inside and emergency action plan for leaks.
The hearing closed after almost four hours of testimony.
