Tamaqua man jailed on assault charges

Dominic Nansteel of Tamaqua was sent to prison on $50,000 straight cash bail on charges he assaulted his girlfriend on Dec. 28, Tamaqua police said.

Police said the victim reported that she and Nansteel were in a verbal argument at his apartment. When the woman threw a water bottle at the wall, she said Nansteel began attacking her in a hallway.

She told police that Nansteel bashed her head into a wall, choked her and punched her. She said Nansteel sat on her face in an attempt to suffocate her, threw her around, brandished a knife and said he was going to kill her.

The woman went to the hospital for treatment. Police said medical paperwork shows that the woman suffered facial bruising, traumatic hematoma on the forehead and injuries to her right hand and fingers. Police said photographs of the injuries documented by the hospital are consistent with the victim’s statement.

Nansteel was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Rossi, Tremont, on charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

He was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison.
