About 60 members of the Pocono Garden Club recently celebrated, during their holiday luncheon, a year so successful they were able to donate funds to five food pantries and the Tannersville Cranberry Bog Preserve, in addition to regular yearly contributions.
Proceeds from the annual flower show and plant sale, held in July, broke previous club records, enabling the club to give donations to extra to food pantries, including the Valor Clinic Foundation; the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network; the East Stroudsburg University Food Pantry at St. Matthew’s Church; Family Promise of Monroe County; and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
The club also made a donation to the Monroe County Conservation District to use toward the Cranberry Bog.
Earlier, the club made donations to the Garden of Giving, and for summer camp scholarships to the Conservation District and Quiet Valley Living History Farm.
The club’s next meeting is planned for noon Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the Conservation District, 8050 Running Valley Road, Bartonsville.
A potluck luncheon will be followed by a chair yoga session for loosening those gardening muscles led by yoga instructor and club member Linda Long. A refresher in cardiopulmonary resuscitation will end the meeting.
