Local Roundup: results from Jan. 11

The Palmerton and Northwestern boys and girls basketball teams posted wins on Thursday.

Elsewhere, the Northern Lehigh girls basketball team extended its winning streak to four games, and Tamaqua swept Mahanoy Area in Schuylkill League swimming action.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Moravian Academy-

Palmerton

Palmerton rolled to a 73-44 Colonial League decision over Moravian Academy to give Ken Termini his 100th victory as head coach of the Blue Bombers.

Brayden Hosier scored 24 of his game-high 27 points in the first half as the winners raced to a 23-point halftime lead.

Corey Serfass and Jacob Grammes both added 10 points for Palmerton, which are 100-79 during Termini’s tenure.

For the Lions, Jackson Reid posted a team-high 15 points.

The Bombers are now 8-3 overall and 8-0 in the league, while Moravian fell to 3-9 and 2-7.

Wilson-Northwestern

Northwestern pulled away from Wilson in the second half en route to a 60-42 Colonial League victory.

Eli Zimmerman scored a game-high 19 points for the Tigers, who led by just four points at the break.

Gaven Nelson added 18 points as Northwestern improved to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the league.

The Warriors, who slipped to 6-5 and 5-4, were paced by Brady Westbrooks’ 18 points.

Palisades-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh’s Connor Simms posted a game-high 26 points, but Palisades used a balanced attack to earn a 75-60 Colonial League victory.

The Pirates had four players score in double figures, led by Riley Sessinger’s 17.

Kellen Bauer registered 12 of his 17 points in the first half as the Bulldogs trailed by just one at the intermission. Dare-Rious Smith also chipped in with 10 as Nolehi dropped to 2-11 overall and 0-8 in the league.

The win lifted Palisades to 2-9 and 1-7.

Tamaqua hung with Blue Mountain for a quarter before the Eagles pulled away for a 76-54 Schuylkill League victory.

Noah Mateyak netted a team-high 16 points for the Blue Raiders, who were tied at 13-13 after the first quarter.

Blue Mountain, who received a game-high 29 points from Isaac Thomas, used a 23-12 second frame to forge ahead.

Cooper Ansbach also tallied 11 points for Tamaqua, now 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the league.

The Eagles upped their marks to 12-1 and 6-1.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Pine Grove used a big second half to gain a 61-45 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

The two teams were knotted at 23-23 at halftime, but Karson Felty scored 13 of his game-high 17 points over the final two quarters to help the Cardinals earn the win.

Brody Schrantz paced the Olympians with 16 points, while Ben Goldberg and Christian Barile both chipped in with seven.

Thorpe fell to 1-14 overall and 0-7 in the league, while Pine Grove improved to 2-12 and 1-6.

A fast start propelled Lourdes to a 61-43 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Trebor Moore and Owen Sandri both scored eight points in the first quarter as the Red Raiders raced to a 25-11 advantage.

Moore finished with a game-high 17 points as Lourdes won for the first time in league play.

The Wreckers received a team-high 15 points from Corbin Wagner, while Niko Saldukas added 12 and Ian McKeegan contributed 11.

The loss dropped Weatherly to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Aubrey Pollard scored 25 points to lead Northern Lehigh to a 58-30 victory against Palisades in Colonial League play.

Katelyn Barthold hit a pair of threes and finished with 14 points for the Bulldogs (7-6), while sister Dekota added 11 points in the team’s sixth win in its past seven games.

Teegan Sims also hit two of Northern Lehigh’s five three-pointers and finished with seven points.

Palmerton remained unbeaten in Colonial League play with a 52-18 victory over Moravian Academy.

Hannah Barry posted 11 of her game-high 14 points for the Bombers (11-1 overall; 8-0 CL) in the first half, as the winners took a 29-9 lead into the intermission.

Sydney Frantz added nine points, while Cate Morgan scored eight.

Chloe Dahl led the Lions (4-6; 4-6) with six points.

Pine Grove took advantage of a strong start to claim a 51-27 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Callee Leffler sparked the Cardinals (5-7 overall; 3-4 SL) with a game-high 21 points. Addison Zimmerman added 10 points for Pine Grove, which led 30-1 at halftime.

Kiara Ginopolas led the way for the Olympians (0-11; 0-6), scoring all of her team-high nine points in the fourth quarter. Ginopolas connected for three three-pointers. Sarah Hartman recorded eight points.

SWIMMING

Mahanoy Area-Tamaqua

Tamaqua swept a Schuylkill League meet against Mahanoy Area.

The Blue Raiders rolled to a 117-17 win in the boys meet, and cruised to a 98-56 victory on the girls side.

Will Behun took home wins in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle events for Tamaqua, while Jathan Krall picked up the victory in the 100-yard butterfly.

Lexi Buchala scored victories in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events for the girls. Savannah Wilson took home victories in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke.
