LANSFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL
Lansford Borough Council approved the following:
• Scheduling a special meeting with the Lansford Fire Company to discuss the purchase of a fire truck.
• Heart and Lung benefits for police Officer Callen Rich.
• Agenda changes for future council meeting. The public will be allowed three minutes to comment on items on the agenda at the beginning of the meeting. At the conclusion of the regular meeting, the public will be allowed three minutes to comment on non-agenda items. The change takes effect at the February 2024 meeting.
• Setting the dates and times for 2024 committee meetings for the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. Committees are: Streets - Jay Doyle, chair; Jack Soberick, and Joseph Butrie; Municipal Administration - Markovich, chair; Gwyneth Collevechio and Jennifer Staines; Public Safety - Staines, chair; Michele Bartek, and Butrie; Parks & Recreation - Collevechio, chair; Bartek and Markovich; Zoning/Ordinance - Soberick, chair; Staines and Doyle; Economic Development - Markovich, chair; Collevechio and Soberick.
• Creation of a Handicapped Parking Review committee to review future applications for parking spots for people with disabilities. The committee would include a member from the streets, public safety and zoning/ordinance committees.
• Scheduling a special meeting with ARRO Engineering to discuss possible changes to the rental license fee schedule. Markovich pointed out that ARRO is investigating 27 different complaints they received in December, and they’re almost all landlord/tenant complaints.
• No action on a motion to amend the tractor trailer parking ordinance to allow vehicles covered under the ordinance a 48 hours grace period to park on the street. There was no second.
• Listing first responder statistics for December as follows: Lehighton Ambulance had 74 incidents with 9.5 minutes average response time. Of those calls, 45 were non-urgent calls and 29 urgent.
• Lansford Police Department made 14 arrests and 43 violations, handling a total of 105 calls. Lansford Fire Department had a total of 20 calls for December with a year-to-date total of 196. Of the calls handled, six, Lansford; five, Summit Hill; seven, Coaldale; two, Nesquehoning.
• The fire department spent 2,700 hours training, 171 hours on community service, and 3,760 hours for administrative duties.
