Two Schuylkill County women elected to office made history on Monday upon taking their oaths of office. Mantura Mazzucca Gallagher of Pottsville became the first woman to chair the Schuylkill County Commissioners and Melinda G. Kantner of North Manheim Township became the first female Schuylkill County Controller.

Other commissioners who were sworn in included Frank McAndrew of Lost Creek and Frank Staudenmeier, Ashland.

Stephen Lukach Jr., Lake Hauto, began his sixth term as Clerk of Courts and was joined by other row officeholders in taking their oaths before the court. They included newcomer Michael M. McCord, Register of Wills; Peter J. Symons Jr., Prothonotary; A. Matthew Dudish, Recorder of Deeds; and Jacqueline McGovern, Treasurer.
