The Northwestern boys and Marian girls picked up basketball wins on Tuesday, while the Tamaqua girls swim team was also victorious.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kutztown-Northwestern

Gavin Nelson scored a game-high 19 points for Northwestern in a 48-24 non-league win over win over Kutztown.

Mason Bollinger added nine points for Northwestern, which improved to 6-3 on the season. The loss dropped the Cougars to 2-8.

The Tigers blew the game open with a huge second quarter when they outscored Kutztown, 28-4.

Lincoln Leadership Academy got off to a fast start and rolled to a 74-41 non-league win over Marian.

Nicholas Estrella had 28 points to pace Lincoln Leadership (9-2), which jumped out to a 27-10 first quarter lead.

Jacob Miller led the Colts (8-3) with 19 points, including three three-pointers.

Carly Minchhoff scored 17 points to lead Marian to a 64-35 non-league victory over Lincoln Leadership Academy.

Frankie Martinelli and freshman Deanna Pugh both added 14 points as the Fillies, won their ninth straight game and improved to 9-1 on the season.

SWIMMING

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Tamaqua and Pottsville split a Schuylkill League meet with the Blue Raider girls posting a 109-62 victory and the Crimson Tide boys picking up a 106-70 win.

Savannah Wilson (100 breaststroke, 200 IM) and Lexi Buchala (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) both captured a pair of individual firsts to lead the Raider girls. Wilson was also part of two winning relay teams, while Buchala was a member of one.

For the Tamaqua boys, Jathan Krall scored victories in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle.
