The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by Greater Hazleton Community-Area New Development Organization Inc. t/a CAN DO Inc. for services provided to approximately 119 commercial and industrial water customers in Luzerne and Carbon counties.
The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate CAN DO’s proposal to increase annual water revenue by approximately $999,900 (43.1%). Under the rate increase request, CAN DO’s water customers would see an increase of approximately 43.1% in their total water bills.
The rate increase request is now suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for investigation and a recommended decision.
A final PUC decision on CAN DO’s rate increase request is due by Aug. 2, 2024.
