Hero banners

The Nesquehoning Veterans Banner program is now open for 2024.

If you would like to purchase a banner, applications are available at the VFW Post Home at 300 E. Center St.

Also if you purchased a banner to be displayed in 2021, 22 and 23 renewal applications were mailed to the sponsor of the banner and the retired banner may be picked up at the post home.

The deadline to purchase a new banner or renewal is Jan. 12, 2024.

St. John the Baptist and St. Nicholas

Since there has been a change in clergy, the holiday schedule has been also been changed for St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Nesquehoning; and St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Lansford.

All are welcome to come and worship and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Saviour with us. Services will be celebrated by Protopresbyter Fr. Joseph Fester.

• Jan. 6, Christmas Eve: 8 p.m. Great Compline Service at St. John Orthodox Church in Nesquehoning

• Jan. 7, Christmas Day: 9 a.m. Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Lansford; and 10:45 a.m. Pro-Liturgy at St. John Orthodox Church

• Jan. 19: Divine Liturgy for Theophany with Blessing of the water at St. John Orthodox Church.

Senior Center

The Panther Valley Senior Center announced the menu for Jan. 1-5.

Monday: Center closed

Tuesday: Pulled Pork, Chuckwagon Corn, Cole Slaw, Melon or Ham and Swiss Sandwich

Wednesday: Orange Chicken, Fried Rice, Asian Vegetables, Pineapples or Beef and Cheese Sandwich

Thursday: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Vegetable Blend, Tropical Fruit or Chef Salad with Ham

Friday: Lasagna, Carrots, Cauliflower, Cookie or BBQ Chicken Sandwich

The senior center also announced the following events.

Early New Year’s Eve Party on Dec. 29 at 10:30 a.m.; Center closed Jan. 1; Bingo on Jan. 2 at 10:45 a.m.; Game Day on Jan. 3 at 10:30 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Jan. 4 at 11 a.m.; Wii Bowling on Jan. 5 at 10:30 a.m.

Cards, Pool, Games, available daily from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. New members are welcome.
