NCC offering construction program

Because of a grant provided by the Northampton County Department of Economic Development, Northampton Community College will be providing a free home-construction career training program for Northampton County residents.

To be eligible for the program, students must be at least 18 years of age, have reliable transportation and possess basic reading and math skills. The program will include hands-on instruction in basic construction methods and operations including hand and power tools, framing and applications of trim, drywall and wall repairs, door and window installation, ladder and scaffolding safety and building code awareness.

The free seven-week training program starts Jan. 22 and runs Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., each day. Candidates who successfully complete the program will earn an OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Training for Construction card and the opportunity to network and interview with potential employers.

Interested individuals must attend a mandatory information session at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem on Jan. 9, and may select from four different time frames: 9-10 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon, 1-2 p.m. or 3-4 p.m.
