Polk Township supervisors

The Polk Township supervisors did the following during their meeting Monday night.

• Adopted the 2024 budget and the 2024 millage ordinance. The rate remains 0.62 mills.

• Approved a request to change the zoning of the property next to Fry’s Plastic in Kresgeville from R3 to commercial. Polk Holdings LLC owns the property.

• Announced that Tracy Herman will be the permanent emergency management coordinator, which is a volunteer position. She has been taking the 75 hours of classes and training. At last month’s meeting, she was appointed as the temporary EMC. She also works for the township as its zoning officer.

• The township will donate $125,000 to the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company and pay for its insurance, as the township has been doing for years.

• There was discussion but no decision regarding setting $200,000 aside in an account for snow emergencies. The talk was a result of supervisors learning that FEMA will no longer pay for snow emergencies, and the supervisors do not want to have to take money out of the general account to pay for snow emergencies.

• Announced that the office will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

• The township’s reorganization meeting is at 7 p.m. Jan. 2. The regular monthly meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22.
