Bombers win pair

The Palmerton boys and girls basketball teams both recorded victories on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Lehighton and Tamaqua boys basketball teams, along with the Northern Lehigh and Northwestern basketball teams, also earned wins.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Matt Machalik scored a game-high 25 points to lead Palmerton to its fifth straight victory with a 59-49 decision over Catasauqua in Colonial League play.

Logan Anthony added 12 points for the Bombers, who raised their mark to 5-1 overall.

Catasauqua (1-7), which dropped its sixth straight, was led by Reece Lopez’s 19 points.

Northwestern-Lehighton

A strong second half helped Lehighton pull away to secure a 64-55 non-league win over Northwestern.

Cole Dietz scored nine of his team-h1gh 19 points in the final period where the Tribe (5-3) outscored the Tigers 25-18 after entering the quarter up 39-37. Joe Roth scored eight of his 17 in the fourth, while Blake Roberts tallied eight of his 16 in the final stanza.

Gavin Nelson had 18 points for the Tigers (3-1), who led 26-21 at halftime. Del Tyler added 17.

Southern Lehigh cruised to an 84-67 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Brandon Clausnitzer and Joseph Plessl each scored 16 points for the Spartans (2-3), who drilled 15 three-pointers.

Northern Lehigh (1-7) was led by Connor Simms, who had 24 points, followed by Kellen Bauer, who had 20.

Tamaqua shook off a slow start en route to a 66-30 non-league win over Roberto Clemente Charter School.

The Pirates kept pace with the Blue Raiders for a quarter, but Tamaqua caught fire over the next two periods to outscore the hosts 42-16.

Connor Dillon paced the Blue Raiders (5-3 overall) with a game-high 18 points, while Brady McCabe added 12.

Deeani Velez led the Pirates (1-5) with 12 points.

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Mikayla Pengelly drained five three-pointers to help Palmerton remain undefeated with a 46-36 victory over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.

Pengelly scored 17 points, and Sydney Frantz added 10 for the Blue Bombers, who raised their record to 8-0 on the season.

Hailey Jenkins scored a game-high 18 points to lead Catasauqua (5-3).

Northern Lehigh earned a big 64-45 victory over Southern Lehigh in Colonial League play.

The Bulldogs (2-5 overall) were paced by Aubrey Pollard, who poured in a game-high 28 points. Katelyn Barthold added 20.

Taylor McDonald led the Spartans (3-3) with 14 points.

Cara Thomas connected for a game-high 18 points to lead Northwestern to a 47-39 non-league win over visiting Lehighton.

Thomas led a trio of Tigers (7-1 overall). Brook Balliet and Olivia Reinhart followed with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

Emma Repsher led the Indians (4-4) with a team-high 16 points. Charli McHugh scored nine.

Pine Grove made the most of the bonus points to come out on top with a 42-24 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Rory Dixon recorded a tech fall at 152 pounds for the Panthers, while Giovanni Fleming added a major decision at 172 pounds.

Brian Welser (285), Jah Bushati (160) and Michael Cobb (133) all posted decisions for Panther Valley.

Chase McArdle led the way for the Panthers with a team-high 17 points, while Cy Maynard added nine.

Weatherly-Tamaqua

Weatherly knocked off Tamaqua for a 43-25 win.

Mitchell Knock drained a game-high 17 points for the Wreckers, while Aiden Slovick chipped in with eight.

Chance Makovec finished with eight points for the Blue Raiders .

Panther Valley-Lehighton

Lehighton got the best of Panther Valley for a 38-29 victory.

Carson Jones and Corrigan Crampsie paced the Panthers with 11 and eight points respectively.

Weatherly-Tamaqua

Tamaqua edged Weatherly for a 33-31 win.

The Blue Raiders’ Jayden Vozicki and the Wreckers’ Eli Brown both tied for a game-high 13 points.

Sam Vinc added 11 for the Blue Raiders, while Anderson Otero chipped in with eight.

Lehighton-Panther Valley

Lehighton cruised to a 44-7 victory over Panther Valley.

The duo of A. Serfass and E. Serfass tied for a game-high nine points for the Indians.

Katelyn Breslin led the Panthers high with six points, while Danika Blazosky followed with four.

Weatherly-Tamaqua

Tamaqua edged Weatherly for a 27-25 victory.

Millie Black led all scorers with 17 points for the Blue Raiders. Joelle Zelonis added five.

Maci Kane scored a team-high 16 points for the Wreckers. Katie Knock added five.

Lehighton defeated Panther Valley, 23-13.

Snyder led all scorers with 10 points for the Indians.
